H5N1

U.S.

As of June 6, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports no new cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 have been reported in the United States.The total remains at 70 confirmed cases and one death.

 

MPOX

Africa

Sierra Leone: As of June 1, 2025, Sierra Leone has reported 3,140 confirmed mpox cases, according to the World Health Organization. This represents a continued surge, with 280 new cases added since May 25. 

Uganda has reported 5,127 confirmed mpox cases as of June 1, 2025, according to the World Health Organization. This is an increase of just 14 cases since the previous update. This represents a significant decline in weekly case growth compared to earlier weeks. While total numbers remain high, the sharp drop from 141 new cases the week before suggests that the outbreak may be stabilizing.

 

MEASLES

U.S.

As of June 6, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 1,168 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 12 % of cases have required hospitalization (137 cases of 1,168), and three deaths have been reported. 

As of June 10, 2025, the Texas Department of State Health Services reports 744 measles cases this year - an increase of 2 since June 3. 

Canada

As of June 9, 2025, Canada has reported 2,980 measles cases, including 2,698 laboratory-confirmed, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. The majority of cases (69%) have been reported in Ontario. Of the total, 761 cases (28%) occurred in adults aged 18 and over. In all, 85% were unvaccinated, and 8% required hospitalization. Genotype D8 remains the most frequently detected strain.

Ontario has reported one death linked to the outbreak - a newborn, born prematurely and with existing health conditions. 

 

POLIO

As of June 4, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports one WPV1 case and two WPV1-positive environmental samples in Pakistan. In Africa, 15 cVDPV2 cases and six environmental samples have been detected, including cases in Angola, Chad, Ethiopia, and Niger, and environmental detections in Djibouti and Somalia. Yemen has also reported three cVDPV2 cases.
