H5N1

U.S.

As of July 7, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports no cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 in the United States. The total remains at 70 confirmed cases and one death.

As of July 3 Cambodia has confirmed its 12th human H5N1 case of 2025, involving a 5-year-old boy now in intensive care after contact with sick poultry.

 

MPOX

Africa

Mpox cases are falling in Sierra Leone, helped by local health workers and targeted vaccination, Africa Centres for Disease Prevention and Control said. According to CIDRAP on July 3, funding shortages are hindering mpox vaccine purchases in Africa, risking setbacks in controlling outbreaks in Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zambia.

Sierra Leone: As of June 29, 2025, Sierra Leone has reported 4,085 confirmed mpox cases, according to the World Health Organization. This represents a continued surge, with 396 new cases added since June 15. 

Uganda has reported 5,879 confirmed mpox cases as of June 29, 2025, according to the World Health Organization. This is an increase of 394 cases since June 15. 

 

MEASLES

Measles outbreaks are increasing across America, with the United States, Mexico, and Canada all reporting a rise in cases. The U.S. is approaching the highest level of measles cases in modern times in 2025.

U.S.

As of July 2, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 1,267 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 12 % of cases have required hospitalization (155 cases of 1,267), and three deaths have been reported. 

As of July 1, 2025, the Texas Department of State Health Services reports 753 measles cases this year - an increase of 3 since June 17. 

Canada

As of July 7, 2025, Canada has reported 3,703 measles cases, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. The majority of cases (60%) have been reported in Ontario. Of the total, 1069 cases (29%) occurred in adults aged 18 and over. In all, 87% were unvaccinated, and 7% required hospitalization. Genotype D8 remains the most frequently detected strain. 1 death have been reported. 

 

POLIO

As of July 2, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports one WPV1 case in Pakistan. In Africa, one cVDPV2 case has been reported each in Angola and Chad, while Benin has detected one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample.
